(ANSA) - CATANZARO, 08 SEPT - Carabinieri blitz in the province of Reggio Calabria.
In an operation against the 'ndrangheta called "Nuova linea", a total of 22 people were arrested, believed to be linked to the Nasone-Gaietti gang of Scilla, in execution of a precautionary custody order issued by the district investigating magistrate Sabato Abagnales at the request of the Dda, direct by Giovanni Bombardieri.
18 of the people involved in the operation were sent to prison, while another four ended up under house arrest.
The investigation in which the gliarreste were carried out represents the continuation of other investigations against the lecosche of 'Ndrangheta di Scilla, a town with a high tourist vocation.
An employee of the Municipality of Scilla is also involved in the investigation, for whom the DDA has asked for a year's ban from public offices.
The Carabinieri of the Operational Department of the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria, as part of the operation, carried out arrests and searches, as well as in Scilla, in Villa SanGiovanni and Bagnara.
Those arrested are accused, for various reasons, of mafia-type criminal association and external concurrence in a mafia association.
Extortion, disclosure and use of office secrets, disturbance of enchantments, possession and carrying of firearms, attempted murder and fraudulent transfer of values are also contested, with the aggravating circumstance of mafia methods.
As part of the operation, movable and immovable property worth one million euros was seized.
Anti-Mafia access is underway in the Municipality of Scilla, which was issued last August by the Minister of the Interior upon request of the prefect of Reggio Calabria, Massimo Mariani.
The current mayor of Scilla is Pasqualino Ciccone, elected in 2020 with the civic list "Scilla starts again".
Ciccone was the first citizen even when the Municipality of Scilla was dissolved by the Mafia in March 2018. Two years later, Ciccone had nominated himself as mayor and was elected with 97.84% of the votes.
