(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 08 - The Italian wine that first reached Queen Elizabeth's table is a Brunello di Montalcino from the Biondi Santi company.
"I believe that Queen Elizabeth tasted a '55 Riserva" bottled in 1960, recalls the Tuscan producer Tancredi Biondi Santi, contacted by ANSA in Japan.
The historical testimony of the menu offered by the President of the Republic Giuseppe Saragat at the Italian Embassy in London is in the pages of various newspapers of 29 and 30 April 1969 reproduced in Stefano Cinelli Colombini's book "Brunello, portraits from memory".
And, as evidenced by the Consortium for the protection of Brunello di Montalcino, it caused a sensation because it was for the first time that an Italian wine was served at a reception between Heads of State.
