From the popular "crown" that occupies her throughout her years to the "Queen" that won Helen Mirren the Oscar - and even a cute animated film and a docu-film that documented her coronation • The Queen of Great Britain is no longer, but she will forever remain in our cultural consciousness

The whole world was stunned after the Queen of Great Britain, Elizabeth II, who passed away this evening (Thursday).

Even if her death was not particularly surprising, since she was still 96 years old and her health deteriorated greatly in the last months of her life, it would be especially fitting to celebrate her life through several films, and especially one series, that dealt with her throughout her years.

Crown

The popular Netflix television series deals with all the years of the Queen's reign, and it began with her marriage to Prince Philip in 1947 (remember, he died in April of last year at the age of 99), and focuses on the first years as Queen, since she came to power in 1952 after the death of her father, the King George VI.

Each season of the series deals with different years of her reign, and naturally members of her family were also included in the plot.

Every two seasons, as the plot progresses naturally over the years, the cast also changes.

Claire Foy, an unknown British actress at the time, was chosen to play the Queen in her first two seasons.

She even won an Emmy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal in the second season.

Oscar winner Olivia Colman, who was chosen to play Elizabeth in the third and fourth seasons of "The Crown", repeated the win in her second season in the role (and fourth overall).

From the moment it aired, the series received excellent reviews and became one of Netflix's biggest hits.

She won a lot of awards, and at the last Emmy ceremony she won the most prestigious of them - the award for the best drama series.

This year she is not competing for the award once again, as the fifth season of the series, in which Imelda Staunton will play her in her later years, is expected to be broadcast on the streaming service only this November.

Immediately after Stephen Frears' 2006 biopic was shown at the Venice Film Festival that year, it was clear that it was an excellent film.

Although "The Queen" did not win the Golden Lion, the biggest award at the festival, Helen Mirren, who played Queen Elizabeth in the period after the death of Princess Diana, received the best actress award for her role.

The film was an impressive commercial success and received many accolades, and in addition to the important award in Venice, it garnered many other awards - many of them for Mirren, who even won the Academy Award for Best Actress at the Academy Awards that year (the film itself, by the way, was nominated for a total of 6 awards , including for Best Film and Best Director).

A royal exit

It's a romantic comedy drama from 2015 that didn't make much of a mark on the film world, and that's fine because that wasn't its goal.

Nevertheless, the film depicts a particularly fictitious night in the life of young Elizabeth, and does not try to remain particularly faithful to reality.

The film takes place in 1945, on Victory in Europe Day, when the Allies defeated Nazi Germany.

The excited Elizabeth (played by the Canadian Sarah Gadon), then still "only" a princess, wants to join the celebrations in London, and goes out with her little sister, Princess Margaret (who died in 2002 at the age of 71), to the streets of the British capital, under a false identity.

Even earlier, her father the king asks her to report to him about the feelings of the people after he gives a speech on British radio.

During the night, Elizabeth and Margaret meet two officers and a pilot, who do not recognize the high-ranking figures in front of them.

King Rexy

The world of animation couldn't ignore the queen either, even if in this case Elizabeth is actually a secondary character - because even so, apparently even she can't capture the audience's heart like one of her cute corgi dogs.

The film follows, you guessed it, Rexy, one of Elizabeth's dogs.

When he gets lost outside the royal palace, he embarks on a long journey to find the queen - and reunite with her.

Julie Walters ("Billy Elliot," "Educating Rita") voices Elizabeth.

Elizabeth: a portrait in parts

They say that timing is everything, and in the case of this documentary - the timing here is nothing less than an amazing touch of the hand of fate, since it hit the screens today.

This is a cinematic journey that spans many generations during the years of Elizabeth's reign, and is a sweeping, playful and empathetic tribute to the beloved queen.

The film was directed by Roger Mitchell, known for "Notting Hill" and "Venus", who passed away last year.

A Queen Is Crowned

A year after Elizabeth's coronation, a documentary was released that deals with exactly that - the event of Queen Elizabeth's coronation the year before.

Instead of showing the full ceremony, which lasted many hours, this docu ("Queen's Coronation", in Hebrew) reduced everything to only 82 minutes.

Thus, in the years before the Internet and the instant availability of any small piece of information, many around the world in general, and in the UK alone, could watch the event for themselves.

The success was dizzying: the film became one of the most successful films in the kingdom in the year of its release, was the first to win the Golden Globe award in the category of best documentary film (a category that has since been canceled) and was even nominated in the same category at the Oscars - but from that ceremony he left empty-handed.
