The vegan version of the British national dish.

Chicken tikka masala is one of the "Indian" dishes invented in Britain and the most famous example of so-called Anglo-Indian cuisine.

The kitchen was shaped on the one hand by regional traditions and by international influences (in connection with the British Empire and the British colonies worldwide).

There is an amusing story about how it came about: Chicken Tikka is an Indian dish with a long tradition.

Chicken is marinated in yoghurt and grilled in a hot tandoori oven.

Since the Brits in the 70s apparently felt the need to always have meat served with a sauce, the chef of an Indian restaurant quickly conjured up a quick sauce made from tomatoes and spices.

And that's how quickly the national dish of Great Britain, which existed alongside Fish & Chips, was born.

We tried a simple vegan version that tastes just as good as the original.

That's how it's done:

You only need a few ingredients:

  • 50 ml peanut oil

  • 400 g mixed peppers, diced

  • 200 g tofu, diced

  • 50 g onions, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped

  • 10 g ginger, chopped

  • 2 teaspoons garam masala (spice mix)

  • 500 ml tomato passata

  • 250 ml coconut milk

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 1 tsp pepper

  • parsley (optional)

  • Fits to:

  • rice

The preparation is so easy:

  • Heat 30 ml peanut oil in a pan.

Fry the peppers and tofu in it for 5 minutes.

    Remove.

  • In the same pan, heat 20ml peanut oil and sauté onion, garlic and ginger.

Add Garam Masala and roast briefly.

  • Deglaze with the tomato passata and coconut milk.

    Season with salt and pepper.

  • Stir in the tofu and paprika and bring to the boil.

  • Sprinkle with parsley and serve with rice.

  • 3, 2, 1 - done!

  • Our recipe for vegan Tikka Masala is really simple and simply tasty!
