A Berliner wants to hand in a deposit in the Rewe supermarket and discovers a message from the store management.

A customer can only hand in a maximum of 20 bottles.

He shares his discovery on Twitter.

Munich – Going to the deposit machine is a tedious undertaking for many.

The returnable bottles and containers must be collected at home and then taken to a supermarket or discounter.

There are enough contact points in Germany for returning deposits: whether it’s Kaufland, Edeka, Aldi, Lidl & Co. – reusable items can be handed in almost anywhere.

Rewe deposit machine only takes 20 bottles per customer: Twitter users annoyed by information leaflets

A customer gets just eight cents per returnable bottle, or 25 cents per one-way container.

In order to reach a large sum, it takes a whole lot of bottles.

But it's still not impossible, as a punk rock band from Baden-Württemberg recently proved: their deposit voucher ended up with a total of 60 euros.

From now on, the customers of a Rewe supermarket will probably not be so lucky.

At the deposit machine he informed: "Reusable returnable bottles are only accepted in the usual household quantities (20 bottles per person).

Your REWE team.”

Twitter user appalled: "Is that really necessary, Rewe?"

A Twitter user spotted the note and was horrified.

He posted a picture of the machine and wrote: "Is that really necessary, Rewe?

Doesn't that mainly affect people who finance their livelihood in the first place by collecting returnable bottles?"

Hundreds of deposit collectors are out and about on the streets of Munich every day.

The competitive pressure is great, many of them regularly risk their lives for a few cents more.

The Rewe customer is therefore wondering what the supermarket's campaign is supposed to do: "For what benefit?

That other customers have to wait a few minutes less?”.

An absolute no-go for Twitter users.

Rewe commented on the post, but failed to make an apology: "Please speak to the local market management directly so that this can be discussed and explained together," they asked the customer.

A similar case caused a stir in an Edeka supermarket last year.

The store management made it clear there: Bottle collectors are no longer wanted in their store.
