True, we are still in August, and the weather is summer in all parts of the country, but one of the most distinct symbols of autumn - the maple tree - is already here.

In fact, it has been blooming in Israel since July.

The members of the Society for the Protection of Nature have in the last few days recorded stone carvings in various places in Israel - the Carmel Coast, Hadera, Herzliya, Tel Aviv and other places.

Amir Laban, director of the urban nature department at the Society for the Protection of Nature, explains that the common gorse is a geophyte (soil-loving), having an onion that stores energy (sugars) during the winter through photosynthesis, which allows it to bloom at a time when almost no other plant blooms - at the end of summer and at the beginning of autumn .

So yes, the autumn season is just around the corner, as it is said - 'In the 20th century, the power of heat is stronger', you can already see more clouds and there are places in Israel where it has already rained. The largest of the wild plants in Israel.

Like other onions, it is full of burning substances that protect it, therefore, very few are able to eat it and the leaves," says Balban.

The Society for the Protection of Nature adds that one of the special things about the rock is the inflorescence column, which after a few years and appropriate amounts of rain, can reach a height of one and a half meters and even beyond that.

The bloom is white and it starts from the bottom, when it takes a week and a half to two weeks to finish the bloom cycle.

"The flowers open in the evening and the honeysuckle specializes in pollination at night by butterflies and in the morning by species of bees and wasps that are attracted to its sweet nectar.

Birds also love this nectar, and the scouts usually eat on stones, in what is considered a very special sight of a shining scout swinging on a flower stem, which sometimes bites a sharp spider," says Balban.

For the mineral seekers

And where can you find gems?

Hatzeb blooms in all parts of the country - from the Mediterranean, along the coastal plain, to the Negev Mountains and the most difficult desert areas in Israel.

Special places to view the rocks are on the Alon Road in the Jordan Valley, Givat Tanach in Jerusalem (with the beautiful background of the old city walls), the slopes of the Shmuel Wall, the desert plateau along the Mitzvak Ha'Takim Reserve, around Mitzpe Ramon, etc.

"In 2008 we planted rocks on the roof of the Neely and David Jerusalem Bird Research Station and last October we planted 3,000 bulbs of chickadees on the roof of the Mendel Institute in Jerusalem, and we look forward to their coming bloom," concludes Belvan.
