Can art change the world?

That is the question.

French street art star JR not only thinks she can, he proves it.

As reported, he always succeeds in using his worldwide poster campaigns with photographs of people who are not in the limelight to draw attention to their respective difficult life situations.

Suddenly those who are otherwise ignored by the public eye get attention.

In this way, JR has helped free those who have long since been written off from a maximum-security US prison;

has helped fight drug trafficking and violence in a Brazilian favela;

or has encouraged people in Israel and Palestine to put themselves in the situation on the other side of the border wall.

How all this?

This is what the interesting exhibition "JR: Chronicles" tells, which can be seen until January 15, 2023 in the Kunsthalle Munich (read more about the show "JR: Chronicles" here).

A supporting program has also been running since September 9, 2022, through which everyone can become part of JR's cosmos.

In the spirit of street art, which wants to bring art out of the ivory palace and into life, making it accessible to everyone, JR invites everyone to have their picture taken in his project "Inside Out".

A truck that has been converted into a mobile studio is stopping at various locations these days.

If you like, you can show your face here – and have your picture taken.

The portraits are taken in the truck, printed out as large-format posters and posted on site.

Just like the artist has done in almost 140 countries around the world since the start of “Inside Out” in 2011.

More than 445,000 people have already taken part in this gigantic artistic community project.

On September 10, 2022, the car will be at the Museum of Urban and Contemporary Art (MUCA) at Hotterstraße 12 in Munich from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.;

on September 11, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Starnberg wing station, Children’s Museum Munich, at Arnulfstrasse 3. On September 13, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Gasteig HP8, Hans-Preißinger-Strasse 8, on September 14 .

September 2022 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the Kösk, the temporary use project of the dye works, at Schrenkstraße 8. And last but not least on September 15, 2022 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. in the five courtyards under the hanging gardens (Theatinerstraße 8).

Registration is not required.

Images that change the world

And what is all this for?

With "Inside Out" JR wants to encourage people to become active themselves.

In the more than 2,300 photo truck campaigns to date, participants have drawn attention to local and global grievances, including the Black Lives Matter movement, the plight of refugees and global climate change.

It doesn't matter which topic is important to you: Here you have the opportunity to set the stage for it using photography.

To change the world a little bit.
