Underground Horror - Trailer (Tulip Entertainment)

Marine researchers were stunned after they spotted what appeared to be a giant 15-metre-long megalodon shark under their boat using fish finder sonar.

The post they uploaded to Instagram detailing their alleged historic "discovery" made waves among many.

"During a recent shark research cruise, we were all amazed to see this shape appear on our fish finder for several minutes," the researchers from the Atlantic Shark Institute wrote about the terrifying shape spotted in a previously unexplored area of water.

At first they thought it was nothing less than Maglodon - a prehistoric shark that was thought to be extinct for three million years and was one of the largest and most powerful predators that ever lived.

This ancient sea giant, which was a terrifying monster shark of enormous size, is considered the largest shark that ever lived (also the largest fish in the history of the earth), and undisputedly ruled the oceans from about 23 to about 3.6 million years ago - when it became extinct.

or not?

He is back?

Based on what we saw in the image we estimated the 'Meg' below us to be about 15 meters (50 feet) long and 40 tons in weight!" the excited researchers wrote. An accompanying screenshot from a fish finder shows the massive mark that appeared on it, which indeed appears to be shaped like a shark. A giant with a dorsal fin.

Unfortunately, the scientists' excitement quickly faded after the mythical monster turned out to be a school of fish arranged in a shape that looked like a shark.

"We were waiting for one of the sonar rods to break, however, to our great disappointment, the shape began to change and became a large school of Atlantic mackerel fish that circled the boat for about 15 minutes," lamented the disappointed researchers.

"So close, but so far! Megalodon disappeared more than 3 million years ago and will probably stay that way, but for a few minutes we thought it was back!", they wrote.

Surfers on Instagram indulged in the enthusiasm of the disappointed shark researchers.

"I was excited for 10 seconds," wrote one of the surfers, and another added: "I was filled with hope. I almost thought I wished it was real. Just a little."

Documentation of a giant shark has sparked the "Magelladon" theory after it spooked tourists

Currently, no living person has seen a megalodon, also known as a big tooth shark, with the only remnant left of it being its huge fossilized teeth, with which and thanks to its jaw it could eat huge fish very easily.

The origin of the word megalodon is from Greek, where the words "megas" (you know the word "mega", big) and "odon" together mean "big teeth" or "big tooth".

Since sharks do not have bones, no fossils of its bones remain, but enormous teeth, about 20 centimeters long each, have been found.

According to the remains of the teeth of this sea monster, it seems that this giant-sized shark was about 20 meters long or more.

The estimated weight of this terrible monster was 13 times the weight of the Great White Shark, today's giant, and 6 times the weight of the T-Rex dinosaur.

In an incident that occurred last year, cruise ship passengers were stunned after spotting a giant shark in the Atlantic Ocean that many social media surfers assumed was a megalodon.

However, others assumed (and rightfully so) that it was a "giant shark" also known as a bony shark, the second largest fish in the world after the whale shark.

It feeds on plankton, is not dangerous to humans and usually stays away from their proximity and devotion.
