The botched operation was more than five years ago – but only now did the former top model Linda Evangelista dare to go public again with a live performance.

Former supermodel Linda Evangelista has made her runway debut after botched cosmetic surgery.

Evangelista appeared at New York Fashion Week on Friday, presenting fashion from the Fendi brand.

Last year, Evangelista made it public that she had undergone fat loss treatment.

She was "brutally disfigured" by the operation more than five years ago, Evangelista said at the time.

With the so-called CoolSculpting, fat accumulations are actually supposed to be removed with the help of cold.

But the surgery had the opposite effect on her, Evangelista said.

The consequences of the treatment would not only have destroyed their existence.

As a result, she was "plunged into a cycle of deep depression, deep sadness and deepest self-loathing".

In February of this year, Evangelista appeared on the cover of People magazine for the first time.

"I'm tired of hiding," the magazine quoted the former model as saying.

And on Instagram, Evangelista wrote about one of the photos from the shoot: "I'm not done telling my story." She will continue to share her experiences, "to free myself from shame, to learn to be myself again love – and hopefully to help others as well«.

According to the report, Evangelista was in treatment between August 2015 and February 2016 – last September she sued the manufacturer of the device used, Zeltiq Aesthetics, demanding $50 million in damages.

In its lawsuit, Evangelista accused the company of concealing potential side effects — or at least not warning enough about them.

The dispute has now been settled.

Evangelista isn't the first celebrity to be self-critical about cosmetic surgery.

Actress Jane Fonda recently revealed that she was not proud of the surgery she had undergone.

"I had a facelift and I stopped because I didn't want to look distorted," Fonda said.
