(ANSA) - LONDON, 11 SEPTEMBER - The coffin of Elizabeth II has left the Scottish residence of Balmoral forever to reach Edinburgh: the capital of the nation of the toughest kingdom, but perhaps even closer to its heart, where tomorrow the coffin will be exhibited for the first time to the homage of the subjects in the Cathedral of St Giles, after a rite in the presence of his first son and successor, King Charles III, expected in the city at the same time.
The mourning for the queen's death is destined to continue for several days.
Today a slow procession has passed through cities such as Aberdeen, Perth, or Dundee, where people have flocked by the tens of thousands to watch the passage.
But also in the village of Ballater, the village closest to Balmoral, where an entire community has gathered.
The arrival in Edinburgh was made with perfect punctuality at 16 local time.
Here the coffin was carried on the shoulder by a Scottish military department of honor in kilt inside the royal palace of Holyroodhouse, where it will be watched over in the night as well as by Anna, by the younger brothers Andrea and Edoardo, united at the entrance in an atmosphere of deep emotion.
Tomorrow the program includes a procession along the RoyalMile, with King Charles III and the queen consort Camilla in the front row.
On Tuesday afternoon the coffin can then be flown to London, where Charles will welcome it at Buckingham Palace.
From Wednesday there will therefore be a public exhibition for 4 days at Westminster Hall.
And finally the cercosi will close with the solemn state funeral on Monday 19th in Westminster Abbey.
