“Several hundred trees, including century-old oaks, risk being impacted by the work to extend metro line 1”, warns Georges Feterman, president of the ARBREs association Nearly two hundred citizens mobilized in the Bois de Vincennes to denounce the metro project.
The project scheduled for 2030 includes two new stations which will serve Fontenay-sous-Bois and Montreuil.
"Extend line 1, yes, but not by destroying 2 hectares of wood", warns Émile Meunier, Paris adviser to the Ecologist group.
The route of the metro impacts one of the oldest parts of the wood.
“For the forest to survive, it is necessary to preserve old trees,” says Tanguy Le Dantec, co-founder of the association Aux Arbres Citoyens.
"For me it's a struggle for the living, we don't stop artificializing the soil in cities, it's a disaster", worries Jeanne, a protester.
The town hall of Paris defends itself by promising to replant the cut trees.
An insufficient response for the associations: “When we are lucky enough to have good old trees, we keep them,” says Georges Feterman.
The Touche pas à mon Bois collective has launched a petition to save the Bois de Vincennes and has already collected nearly 70,000 signatures.
