(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 12 - Six Syrian refugees, including two children aged one and two, a teenager aged 12 and three women, died on a boat left adrift for days in the central Mediterranean presumably "of hunger and thirst" .
This was stated by UNHCR, underlining that the Agency is assisting the 26 survivors who landed in Pozzallo, many of whom "present extremely serious conditions, including burns".
"This unacceptable loss of life and the fact that the group spent several days adrift before being rescued highlights once again the urgent need to restore a timely and efficient, state-led search and rescue mechanism in the Mediterranean," says the representative of the
