As part of the test of several deodorants, a Rexona deodorant was found by Öko-Test to be "unsatisfactory".
The reason for this is that “hazardous substances” are present in the product.
Frankfurt - The
Öko-Test
publication found a new Rexona deodorant product to be "insufficient": "We bought 30 deodorant creams and had them tested for harmful substances in the laboratory.
Many of them score “good” or “very good”.
However, the product
Rexona Maximum Protection Creme-Stick Clean Scent
is not one of them.” wrote
Öko-Test
.
The reason for the verdict is that "hazardous substances" are said to be in the Rexona product.
Rexona flop: why the product performed so poorly
According to
Öko-Test
, the Rexona product contained “problematic ingredients” “that, in our view, do not belong in a cosmetic or hygiene product.” The use of aluminum salts as an active ingredient against sweat and odors was heavily criticized.
However, according to Öko-Test
, these aluminum salts are considered
to be neurotoxic and can build up in the “brain, bones and organs
accumulate and affect the development of unborn children in the womb.”

Another point of criticism from
Öko-Test
was that the product contained silicones in contrast to natural fats.
Silicones may not integrate into the skin's balance as well as natural fats.
In addition, the silicones are not environmentally friendly because they only degrade slowly.
A particular criticism, however, is that the Rexona product is contaminated with the "critical silicone compound siloxane D4".
"D4 is classified as a hazardous substance in the EU because it is suspected of impairing fertility."
Finally, the packaging of the product is also objected to, as it is not made of recyclable plastic.
All in all,
Öko-Test
considers the Rexona product to be “unsatisfactory”.
