When it comes to thyroid function, women often come to mind.
A disease can reduce sexual desire in men.
The thyroid is a small, inconspicuous organ, but its hormones have an enormous influence on our entire organism.
An underactive thyroid can not only be associated with unpleasant symptoms such as weight gain and fatigue.
Special care is required for women who wish to have children, since a disease of the thyroid gland during pregnancy can seriously harm the unborn child.
If men have an underactive thyroid, this can make itself felt in the partnership and in love life.

In Germany, about five out of 100 people suffer from hypothyroidism.
Thyroid disorders affect women about four times more often than men.
Those affected often do not know anything about a disease of their thyroid gland, since the symptoms are very non-specific.
Signs can be:
Frequent tiredness
Chronic exhaustion, similar to fatigue
sensitivity to cold
difficulty concentrating
Depressive moods
Dry skin and hair
If this small endocrine gland lacks iodine, it can no longer produce enough of the crucial thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4).
The result can then be not only an underactive thyroid but also an overactive thyroid with corresponding symptoms and sequelae.

An underactive thyroid can not only manifest itself through itching of the skin or be accompanied by depressive moods.
For men, thyroid disease can even cause erectile dysfunction.
The poor performance and exhaustion associated with an underactive thyroid can reduce sexual desire and even cause impotence.
Therefore: In the case of erectile dysfunction and sexual reluctance in men, always remember to have your thyroid levels checked.
