"I am a person who really appreciates hypocrisy": Aviad Belali from "Come Eat With Me" explains why this is a cult show | Israel today

2022-09-15T13:03:24.284Z

Another season of Kaan 11's satirical reality docu is coming to the finish line, and this is an excellent time to talk with one of the prominent contestants of the last episodes • The participant who gives a decent fight to Shai Avivi's excellent cynicism tells Israel Hayom, among other things, about the depression he suffered from, On the dream that came true to participate in the program and on politics and cigarettes in "Big Brother" • And in addition: what does he think about the storm that broke out on the network around Gala, Rivka and Modi?

Unlike many of the contestants in the satirical docu-reality show, Aviad Belali's participation in the cult show "Let's Eat With Me" is really not his first baptism of fire in the media world.

Belly has long been a network anchor, with over a hundred thousand followers on Facebook alone, where he stars as his popular character, "Cornelius the Threat", which he created to allow himself to behave and conduct himself without inhibitions, with all that implies.

It also turns out that he is one of the show's die-hard fans, so for him the opportunity to compete in it was a dream come true.

I've been a fan since day one!", he declares in an interview with "Israel Hayom". "A rare program.

Hits right to the heart of Israeli culture and the whole culture of hypocrisy, so to speak, because I am a person who really appreciates hypocrisy, and it is presented there most openly and most beautifully.

I always thought I fit the name Bull.

I always imagined myself talking to these delusional people.

I go there and create my magic."

In the program's Facebook group, we greatly appreciated your humor.

Have you also encountered less favorable responses?

"I always come across less favorable reactions. I've been online for years, I've come across these more than once. It's usually people who come across me for the first time and don't really know my character and humor, who I am exactly. From my experience, these people grow to love me."

Speaking of love, even the eccentric Cornelius did not remain indifferent to his playmates.

"We have a group, from time to time we talk about it", he shares about the relationship that remained after the end of filming.

"Especially this week, we suddenly came to life. We wanted to meet and do a screening. I was a little stressed by that, because I didn't remember what I said about the guys," he says with amusing honesty.

"We didn't succeed in the end with all their plans and their abroad."

You didn't hide the fact that you had no patience for Gal's digs

"Listen, they don't show it that much, but Gal digs very, very, very hard. If they showed even a tenth of his digs, these would be the most boring episodes in the world. Gal can be very, very boring. Tackle is very serious in his digs, and we encountered that throughout This week. I love him very much, but words should be understated."

What do you think of the ongoing catfight between Judith and Sevan?

(Laughs) "My biggest love all week. I had a fight and told specific things they said about each other. It wasn't fully shown. I had a lot of fun. I really like both Judith and Sivan. They are really different from each other. One of the most Sahit stood out with her orderly life (Sivan) and the other is completely crazy. Every sentence she says is a new hallucination that needs to be deciphered, and it didn't clash well. It didn't flow. It was great entertainment to see these two old ladies."

There is a widespread claim that in recent seasons everything is pretty much known in advance, and the show doesn't manage to surprise and laugh like it used to.

It is often claimed that the participants are so aware of the moves in the show, that everything already feels less authentic and entertaining.

What do you think?

"Maybe I agree with it a little bit. Maybe it's a little less spontaneous and charming and original than what they've done before, but on the other hand I don't think they've lost their charm. I think they're doing it exactly as it should be done. Even last week, less Loved the contestants, in my eyes this was the best week. I love fights, I love climates. I think those who watch this show are waiting for just that. To bring edges of Israeli society to rub shoulders with each other. After all, this is not a show about food."

Oh.

That's exactly what we wanted to talk to you about.

What do you think of the uproar surrounding Gala, Rebecca and Moody?

"I look at it not as a spectator, but as one who experiences this production from the inside. I know how many times we find out of our context to contribute to the plot. Sentences enter in specific places that were not necessarily said in their context. It was a tough week. Bringing in Arabs, bringing in settlers I begged them not to give me a week like this. Very heavy on my soul. It was very difficult for me to see what they did to Rebecca and Gala online. They were taken out by the devil and these are just two girls who came to have fun and enjoy themselves. I feel that it was missed, and they are terribly dangerous. It is It sucks. It also really stressed me out about my week."

And what at the end?

Satisfied with how you were treated?

"I'm satisfied, it's a waste of time! Just as I thought! It illuminated something in me that had been hidden for the past few years. I got to talk in the last episode about the fact that I experienced a long period of depression and that this week really put me in an atmosphere of action. To see the production, people pick up such a stunning operation From nothing. It illuminated something in me, it did me good."

"Big brother" is less my style

Quite a few of the chefs in the show use the competition as a springboard to a bigger reality show on the commercial channels.

What do you think about it?

"There are people who are by definition reality stars, and grab everything possible. I was offered 'Big Brother' several times. It's less my style. Shame on them! It could be that these are really interesting characters who should get the stage. Feels legitimate to me. I don't feel which is a bad thing. Why is participating in reality TV so bad? On the one hand, reality TV is consumed and on the other hand, people complain about it. Israelis."

Would you enter another reality show?

"I fulfilled my reality TV dream with 'Let's eat with me'. It's my favorite reality TV show. I don't know, maybe 'The Race to a Million'. Talking politics and talking about cigarettes are things that will less bring out my best in me, but I don't rule anything out."

You are a network anchor with a lot of followers, on Facebook alone you have over a hundred thousand, and you are still known in your father's explosion.

Does your success not translate into money?

"It happened to me a few times. I managed to make money from this occupation. Let's just say that I'm not one to fly away from productions and auditions, and in general the Zohar world is very lonely and very difficult for me with it. I had a period when I stopped everything at the peak and that's what made me forget. I'm too hard on content Marketing. That's what I was told all the time. To calm down and calm down, and I didn't want to. I'm in a different place today. In 'Come Eat With Me' I chose to be me and not Cornelius. I wanted to see how people reacted to me and not to a character. I saw interesting things that would make me take my career A little different. Maybe get off Cornelius, I thought maybe go to stand-up."

Indeed, the character of Cornelius the Menace was created by Belli, among other things, in order to deal with criticism and create a layer of protection around him.

"It was a very calculated step to create the character. It's like Keren Moore playing her star in 'Main Box Office'," he compares to another cult show of Kana 11. Same thing. Protects me, gives me the option to do what I want. Satire. Totally a layer of protection for me."

And to the questions: Is the nail polish always or just for the show?

"I can tell you that I don't always wear nail polish. At that time, I returned to my matriculation in the 9th grade. When I feel like it, I apply nail polish. Now I don't have nail polish on my nails."
