Elementary school students in Amsterdam found a submachine gun during a cleanup near their school.
A student came across the Uzi pistol between rubbish under a bridge on Wednesday, police said.
"Wow, a gun," she called out to a classmate, while a classmate carefully picked up the gun and brought it to the teacher.
Teacher Levie Peek said the police treated the children well and answered their questions.
Therefore, they would not have perceived the weapon find as so threatening.
Finally, officers even took a souvenir photo with the eighth graders - with the gun lying on the floor in front of the group.
Primary school in the Netherlands goes up to the 8th grade, but starts much earlier than in Germany.
The children are usually twelve years old when they finish primary school.
