The two duchesses paid tribute to the sovereign during a ceremony organized at the Palace of Westminster on Wednesday, September 14.

Princess Anne had split a moving bow on Sunday, September 11, when the coffin of Elizabeth II arrived at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Three days later, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton also bowed during the ceremony held at the Palace of Westminster, in honor of the sovereign.

If Kate Middleton opted for a discreet bow, after this short mass, Meghan Markle for her part bowed very low, as the queen's remains passed.

A way, according to some media, to revive the memory of their first meeting.

In March 2021, Prince Harry's wife indeed revealed, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, that she had had to seek the advice of Sarah Ferguson, Prince Andrew's ex-wife, to learn how to bow just before this meeting at the Royal Lodge in Windsor.

“We trained right in front of the house, she recalled.

Fergie ran outside and said, 'Do you know how to curtsy?

After which the duchess would have made a bow a bit too low in front of the monarch.

"Apparently I did a very low curtsey, I don't remember, and then we sat there and chatted," she continued.

In Westminster, Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have, moreover, decided themselves to perform a curtsey at the passage of the coffin of Elizabeth II.

They were not, in fact, forced to do so.

According to protocol, female royals should only bow if they are meeting the monarch for the first time that day.
