Disney+ starts with a new virtual reality function when watching films on the sofa at home.
The feature is currently only available to iPhone users.
Munich – home cinema has been around for a long time.
Some have even converted the basement room into their own projection room - with an oversized television, 4K resolution and modern sound boxes that could fill the whole house with sound.
Disney+ is now adding the right crown to the cinema experience.
"A new film with elements of virtual reality (VR) should lay the foundation for this," writes
Der Westen
.
The streaming service will thus become a “film and cinema experience platform”.
In the short film, a waterfall pours from the television into the living room.
Captain Marvel star Brie Larson plays an author in the eight-minute film Remembering.
Disturbed by a phone call, she forgets a great idea.
In order to be able to remember the idea again, she gets in touch with her childlike self.

Your inner child lives in the "world of imagination", a colorful realm full of rainbows and waterfalls.
Viewers can then bring this “world of imagination” into their own living room via
augmented reality
(AR*).
For example, as shown in the film, a waterfall falls out of the TV screen.
Disney+ thus merges the viewer's real and fictional worlds.

Unfortunately, the VR function is only available to iPhone users so far.
Anyone using an Android smartphone will not be able to enjoy this function.
But according to the industry magazine "The Steamable", it can be assumed that Disney will also offer AR* shows and films for other devices in the future, should they prove successful.
With a unique augmented reality* app, where the AR* experience is triggered by the film's moving image, select US Disney+ subscribers can interact with the story by scanning the TV to see The World of Imagination in to get her own living room.

Disney+ film experience: Proprietary AI merges digital and real worlds
According to Disney boss Bob Chapek, Disney+ will not only be a film service platform, but also an experience lifestyle platform.
"A platform for the entire company to embody both the physical things that you can experience in an amusement park and the digital experiences that you can have through media," Chapek said of
The Streamable
.
In the long term, Disney wants to combine these digital and real experiences with its own AI systems, reports

Those visiting a Disney park could receive recommendations on Disney+ at home based on their on-site experiences.
