Rivals Scholz, Merz

Chancellor Olaf Scholz and opposition leader Friedrich Merz want to overcome their speechlessness and meet for dinner in the chancellery at the end of the month.
This was preceded by an invitation from the government headquarters, to which the CDU chairman and Union faction leader Merz immediately responded with several concrete proposals for dates.
There have recently been reports that communication between the Social Democratic head of government and Merz could be expanded.
The CDU politician offered Scholz cooperation on important issues after Russia's attack on Ukraine, but reportedly feels insufficiently involved.
He repeatedly repeated the Union's willingness to cooperate.
Most recently, Merz has publicly attacked the chancellor several times – Scholz, in turn, reacted with violent counterattacks to the criticism of the opposition leader in his last appearances in the Bundestag.
