Lothar Matthäus: Comeback as a coach

2022-09-16T09:49:19.343Z

Record international player Lothar Matthäus is again training a football team - the E-Youth of TSV Grünwald, in which his son also plays. He wants to convey fun, but apparently takes the task quite seriously.

Seven stations in six countries: Lothar Matthäus had actually ticked off the coaching topic.

But for his son, the German football record national player makes an exception.

Matthäus took over the e-youth of TSV Grünwald in the noble Munich suburb.

"For the love of football," as the 61-year-old emphasizes - and for his eight-year-old son Milan.

"I want the best for the boys, that they have fun and maybe develop further," said Matthäus on Thursday in Munich.

"It's about bringing the sport closer to the children so that they get to know each other and sometimes lose."

The former world-class player and current TV expert became aware of the club through his son.

The decision to step in as a coach was then only a matter of form.

"Last year there was a good coach who had to step down due to time constraints," says Matthäus.

"Since I was always there anyway, I thought: If I've always been off the field, I can also be on the field." TSV Grünwald was directly "fire and flame" for him.

According to the news agency sid, the world champion captain from 1990 also challenges his boys quite a bit on the pitch.

"Don't talk," "no mistakes," he calls out to them.

If you don't move properly, you have to do push-ups.

"They're eight to ten, that's when the fun is over," says Matthäus.

According to the information, he increased his workload from two to three training days – just as often as the first men's team at TSV Grünwald.
