Wearing a blue cap, suit and an umbrella, soccer star David Beckham queued for twelve hours on Friday to pay his last respects to Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Hall in London.

The 47-year-old soccer star had joined the queue to see the late Queen's coffin, like so many Brits did.

The 47-year-old told Sky News that he queued at 2 a.m. and waited around 12 hours.

He was there to honor the "special" Queen.

It's a sad but unforgettable day, Beckham said.

"I've been fortunate to have had a few moments in my life to be with Her Majesty."

"I feel a little sorry for him"

Apparently, local fans could hardly believe their luck.

Numerous people waiting tried to take a photo of the former England international – and forgot to go on.

Images on social media document Beckham's wait.

"I feel a little sorry for him, but he's taking it easy," tweeted one of those waiting.

The Queen will remain in state at Westminster Hall until Monday morning.

Until then, the kilometer-long queue should remain - a work of art, as SPIEGEL columnist Anja Rützel calls it.
