, a series on the youth of Louis XIV, Canal +, in collaboration with the BBC, is looking into an ambitious biopic of the last queen of France, Marie-Antoinette.
The encrypted channel broadcast the trailer for its new creation with a very big budget (23 million euros), a historical series of eight 52-minute episodes.

The Crown
This first season covers the first ten years of marriage of Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI, from 1770 to 1780. Aged 14 when she left her native Austria and her mother Empress Marie-Thérèse to marry a man she n ever seen, the stubborn and dissipated Marie-Antoinette was forced to comply with the etiquette of the Court of France.
The "little dolphin", constantly under pressure, suffers from a lack of independence and freedom.
Through her undeniable sense of style, her charisma and her liveliness, she gradually integrated the codes of the court and made them her own, to create a Versailles in her image, stirring up jealousies and rivalries.
Worn by German-Russian actress Emilia Schüle (

) in the main role, the international cast consists of Louis Cunningham as Louis XVI, James Purefoy as Louis XV, Jasmine Blackborow as Princess of Lamballe and Gaia Weiss as Madame du Barry.
Entirely shot in English,
Marie-Antoinette
is nevertheless a French production, co-signed with Banijai Studios and Capa Drama.
Some scenes were filmed in important places such as the castles of Versailles and Vaux-Le Vicomte.

The creator, Deborah Davis, screenwriter of
La Favorite
by Yorgos Lanthimos, wanted to portray the loneliness of a young queen trapped in a malevolent Versailles.
“It is as much about the portrait of a young modern woman, misunderstood, as that of a dysfunctional family”, confided Olivier Bibas, director of creation at Canal +.
And perhaps a rehabilitation of these characters cursed by the History of France.
