Police dog stops fuel thieves: "Stop or we'll let Horst go"

That was probably nothing: Two brazen fuel thieves wanted to make off in NRW with stolen goods.
But Horst, the service dog, doesn't allow it.
Fuel prices are still high.
You can get stupid ideas to make quick money.
Fuel thieves often target tanks on construction sites or parked construction machinery and trucks.
They often set off at night to go on a foray unnoticed.
They are rarely caught in the act.
But not in this case: A few days ago, the Hagen police, with the help of service dog Horst, caught two perpetrators who were about to flee.

Concerned residents called the Hagen police on Sunday evening around 10:20 p.m.
Two men are on their way to a construction site with several petrol cans.
When officers got there, they found numerous empty cans, cell phones and alcoholic beverages in the parked car.
"Our service dog Horst picked up the scent," the police said on their Facebook page.

The construction site is fenced off and the trail leads to a spot where the fence was apparently broken down by the burglars.
One of the thieves is standing in front of the lookout, next to him are already filled canisters with fuel.
When the two crooks want to run away with the stolen goods, an officer threatens to "let Horst off his leash".
The well-trained dogs are not to be trifled with.
But they are always loyal to their owners.
This sentence alone was probably enough and both perpetrators stop immediately.
The two men were arrested and handed over to the police.
