Although the 5G connection is not widespread all over the globe, tests have started for 6G, the standard that will come later and which aims to provide greater speed and facilitate continuity between the physical and digital world for the conduct of many of our activities, too. in the metaverse.

In the front row LG, which in collaboration with the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute and the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Solid State Physics, has reached a new milestone in the experimentation of 6G.

The company demonstrated in Berlin the possibility of transmitting data in the 155 to 175 GHz band up to a distance of 320 meters outdoors, beating its previous record of 100 meters, achieved almost a year ago.

This is an important step towards testing 6G in real environments, given that the declared objective of the standard is to be able to exploit cells capable of covering, each, a radius of 250 meters, to offer connection speeds, in theory, 1000 gigabytes per second or 1 terabyte.

Today, 5G can reach a maximum of 2 gigs per second.

For this reason, the advent of 6G is also defined as the transition from the "giga" to the "tera" economy.

Discussions on standardizing the 6G network are expected to begin around 2025, with the technology expected to be commercialized by 2029. Compared to 5G networks, the protocol will not only provide better data rates but also lower latency and greater reliability.
