Mattress test: lying, sleeping and turning - but what if the underlay doesn't live up to its promises?

The mattress test: test sleep for 100 days.
But what happens to sleeping pads if the tester doesn't like them after the deadline?
Munich - their names are Sleepsy, Miily Royal, Bruno, Aqua Deluxe, Schlaraffia or quite profane Emma.
You can test most of them, but now and then there are supposed to be people who test them for a longer period of time.
Similar to the artists John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono, who lay in a hotel bed together for a week in 1969.
In the meantime, the suite was overcrowded with 40 people, euphoric people were standing and sitting everywhere.
They drummed, clapped, sang along with the refrain: "All we are saying is give Peace a Chance".
The week-long bed story turned into a peace campaign.
That's how it was back then - in the youth of famous pop musicians.
Everything had a message of political protest.
They just slept for world peace.
Ok, the artist couple didn't really want to test the comfort of the hotel mattress with this art action.
But for a dreamy night's sleep - even if it's only for a week like John and Yoko's - there's no harm in having a comfortable surface.
More and more suppliers of sleeping pads are aware of this.
“100 nights of sleep trials, 30 days right of return” is what advertising slogans promise customers.
Such tempting offers have therefore become common when buying new mattresses.
Mattress test: bed history for 100 days - and afterwards?
But what actually happens when a customer returns their mattress after a month, six weeks or even 100 days?
If it is placed in the sales room again - after thorough cleaning, of course.
After all, today's modern customer always likes to buy sustainably.
As a report by Netto and WWF now makes clear.
Well, in the rarest of cases does a mattress get a chance to be recycled, explains TÜV Süd.
It is therefore not exactly possible to speak of a sustainable offer.
Because the providers apparently have no other purpose for a used mattress.

, most providers should
dispose of the returned products.
Only rarely would these mattresses be sold as B-goods at a discounted price or to special item dealers.
Even as a donation, the sleeping pads rarely go to non-profit organizations.
The TÜV therefore advises environmentally conscious consumers to ask the suppliers how the mattress will be recycled if it is returned.

Mattress test: The second chance for a sleeping pad
Every now and then, companies give their mattresses a second chance after a short period of use, according to good news from
TÜV Süd

They would either be disinfected after they were returned or reupholstered with a brand new cover.
They would then be sold for a lot cheaper than unused mattresses.
In this way, the customer takes account of the idea of sustainability and can save money on the purchase at the same time.

But regardless of whether a customer buys their mattress brand new or used, they should always turn it over - especially on hot days when they sweat a lot at night.
Because if this moisture cannot evaporate, it promotes the formation of mold in the mattress.
Bed mites also like to multiply in this moist environment.
All in all, this also shortens the lifespan of a sleeping pad and promotes allergies.
In the end, all sleepers will definitely enjoy sleeping for world peace again.
