A major earthquake struck off the southeastern coast of Taiwan on Sunday prompting a tsunami warning for the region that was eventually lifted.
The National Fire Brigade Agency said one person was killed by falling machinery at a cement factory in the town of Yuli, located near the epicentre.
According to the authorities, there would also be 79 injured.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred shortly after 2:44 p.m. local time, was located about 50 km north of the city of Taitung, at a depth of 10 km, said the American Institute of Geological Studies ( USGS).
It would have been of a magnitude of 6.8 according to the Taiwan meteorological office.

Many damages are to be deplored.
In Taoyuan, for example, the roof of a gymnasium failed and suddenly collapsed during badminton training, without causing any casualties.
