Shorter opening hours because of the energy crisis?
In a letter to state governments, a supermarket manager advocates a reduction.
Kassel – Shorter shop opening hours at Rewe, Aldi, Edeka and Co. due to the energy crisis – Tegut Managing Director Thomas Gutberlet addressed this concern in a letter to the governments of the federal states.
He has not yet received an answer, reports the
Lebensmittelzeitung
.
However, the entrepreneur is not alone with his idea of saving energy by reducing opening hours.
The Edeka merchant Dieter Hieber also recently advocated adjusted opening times for supermarkets and discounters such as Edeka, Rewe, Lidl and Co.: "In general, I wonder whether we don't have to fundamentally rethink the opening times in retail when we bind staff and in the future also want to find,” Hieber told the

Energy crisis: Shorter opening times at Edeka, Rewe, Aldi, Lidl and Co. are intended to save energy
With its concern in the energy crisis, the supermarket operator Tegut wants to bring shorter shop opening times back into the conversation.
“In the short term, a reduction would help save energy;
In the long term, it would make the job profile in retail more attractive again," managing director Thomas Gutberlet told
Lebensmittelzeitung
.
Because not only the energy crisis is causing problems for the retail trade.
Due to an acute shortage of staff, the fresh food counters in numerous supermarkets such as Edeka, Aldi, Rewe and Co. have to close earlier.
Regulations in Bavaria, where shops close at 8 p.m., serve as a model for the entrepreneur.
For comparison: At numerous locations, Tegut is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in some markets.
It is no different with other supermarkets and discounters such as Aldi, Rewe, Edeka and Co.

Therefore, in a letter to the governments of the federal states, Gutberlet campaigned for the reduction in shop opening hours.
However, Tegut does not yet have concrete plans for shorter opening hours.
"Basically, it's about bringing the topic of shop opening times back into the conversation and renegotiating with the public," he said in an interview with the Lebensmittelzeitung.
