Frank Mawer was born in Ireland in 1912, emigrated to Australia in 1939 - and is said to have been the oldest person in Australia: Mawer died Down Under at the age of 110 after a corona infection.
He fell asleep peacefully after the illness had weakened him in recent weeks, Australian broadcaster ABC reported, citing the nursing service who looked after the pensioner.
"He lived life to the fullest"
Mawer had six children, 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and even two great-great-grandchildren.
When asked about the secret of his long life in 2020, the then still very sprightly pensioner said there were three things to avoid: alcohol, smoking and gambling.
"He lived life to the fullest," ABC quoted one of his sons as saying.
"He insisted on getting up at mealtimes, he did his exercises every day, and he had many visitors."
Mawer lived alone near Sydney until last November, when he moved to live with his son in Tilba on the south coast of New South Wales.
A few weeks ago Mawer was infected with the corona virus and then became weaker and weaker.
