Some pathos: the docu about Shlomo Artzi is meant to elevate his own brand Israel today

I am not a fan of Shlomo Artzi, nor do I agree that "he is the most successful singer that Israeli culture has ever known", as the voice of Danny Kushmaro announces at the beginning of HOT8's new musical biography, "And my first memory".

Eric Einstein is bigger than my country.

Also Shalom Hanoch and Eyal Golan.

Omar Adam is more admired.

Danny Sanderson is more talented than him.

This is my opinion, so I am not the target audience for the docu starring him.

Because the three episodes of the series, and also many Israelis, do not think like me.

For them Shlomo Artzi is synonymous with a one-time icon, a living legend.

True, Artzi is an iron sheep asset to the local culture, but he mainly embodies an elitist Ashkenazi existence.

is the dictionary definition of the term Sahi.

The mainstream incarnate.

"And my first memory" gives a renewed look at the country we know.

The chapters are fascinating, jump between points in his life, there is a lot of archival material and there is Artzi speaking openly.

This is a work that is intended to remain a historical document that illustrates his superiority, that stamps his status in the Israeli pantheon and establishes a consensus that my country is the national singer of the Ha-Ha-Ha-Ha-Heeda. He and no one else.

Throughout his memoirs, Artzi expresses a feeling of inferiority compared to singers of his time;

Remember how Shalom Hanoch, Mati Caspi and others were appreciated, while the entertainment industry tried to throw him out of it.

Also, how he rose from Ashpat through a balcony to achieve his current status and become a brand among the elite who despised him.

The interviewees are all family and friends.

For them he is the king of the world.

One of the creators of the series is Yaron Shilon (Yigal's son), who is married to the daughter of Artzi's partner (Shahar), which explains the family narrative and also corresponds with the film he made about Shilon the father.

The same brand that the series makes sure to elevate.
