Anger has been mounting in Iran since the death of a young woman on September 16, violently arrested by the morality police for "inappropriate dress".
Masa Amini has become a symbol of the country's repression against women.
Since his death, after three days in a coma, protests have spread across the country.
Iranians castigate the increased repression of the regime of President Ebrahim Raïsi, elected in August 2021.
A violent repression
The UN expressed concern on Tuesday, September 20, about the violence of the repression by the Iranian authorities against the demonstrations protesting against the death of Mahsa Amini.
Acting UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Nada Al-Nashif said in a statement:
“The tragic death of Mahsa Amini and the allegations of torture and ill-treatment must be promptly, impartially and effectively investigated by an independent competent authority, which ensures, in particular, that her family has access to justice and truth.
