A heart attack can be fatal.

It is all the more important to recognize signs.

These can occur several weeks in advance.

When a person suffers a heart attack, action must be taken quickly.

So there is a chance that the patient will not suffer any serious health consequences or even die from it.

However, there are signs that can be clearly assigned to a heart attack.

Even if the heart suddenly and completely unexpectedly gets into trouble during a heart attack, warning signals can often appear about four weeks beforehand, as scientists have discovered.

Symptoms can even announce a stroke ten years in advance.

In Germany, around 300,000 people suffer a heart attack every year, with one in three being fatal.

In the event of a heart attack, a region is no longer sufficiently supplied with blood due to the blockage of a coronary artery, since the blood vessels are responsible for the blood and oxygen supply.

When they are blocked, they can no longer function and as a result, parts of the heart muscle can die.

This can reduce the pumping power of the heart throughout life.

Cardiac arrhythmias can also result.

Untreated ventricular fibrillation can ultimately lead to death in the worst case.

However, the condition can already make itself felt through symptoms in the body for several weeks.

According to

Focus Online

, researchers from the American College of Physicians determined this in an investigation.

They interviewed more than 800 people who had suffered and survived a heart attack, their families and doctors.

The following five symptoms emerged, which occurred particularly often in those affected before the heart attack:

  • difficulty breathing

  • palpitations

  • chest pain

  • sudden low blood pressure and loss of consciousness

  • other symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain or back pain

Heart attack: Signs can sometimes be precursors

If these symptoms occur, they do not necessarily indicate a heart attack.

However, they should still be examined by a doctor.

Anyone suffering from it should have the symptoms clarified by a doctor.

A heart attack can be life-threatening for both men and women.

However, the symptoms of a heart attack differ between the sexes.
