Two days after the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and thirteen days after her death, Prince William held his first official speech on Wednesday under his new title of Prince of Wales, which he obtained after the accession to the throne of his father Charles III.
During this speech, Prince William praised the actors who are committed to the protection of the environment, a “cause dear to (his) grandmother” the late Queen Elizabeth II.
The heir to the throne spoke in a pre-recorded video at an event ahead of the Earthshot Prize, which he created last year and which rewards projects that offer solutions to the climate crisis .
He was originally scheduled to travel to New York for the prize, but gave up the trip after the death of Elizabeth II.

“Although it is in the saddest of contexts (…) I am happy to be able to be there on video”, he declared two days after the funeral with great pomp of his grandmother, saluting “the 'enthusiasm, optimism and commitment' of the actors of this award.
“Environmental protection was a cause dear to my grandmother and I know she would have been delighted to hear about this event.
Together, we must ensure that the transition to durable solutions is the fastest change the world has ever seen,” he stressed.
The prince had presented the first edition of the Earthshot prize in London in October last year.
Commitment to the environment is a family affair on the side of the royal family, Prince William not being the first to take an interest in the cause, his grandfather Philip having long chaired the WWF and his father King Charles III being often described as an environmentalist before his time.
