The video that proves: calories really aren't everything (photo: Yossi Tsipkis, director: Guy Goren, editing: Noa Levy)
Lots of people spend far too much time worrying about calories, but not everyone understands how they really work.
A calorie is a unit of energy that our body receives from food, and for each body - the caloric needs are completely different and continue to change throughout life depending on variables such as age, health status and nutritional goals.
If you've ever tried to lose weight, you've probably heard that in order to do so you need to take in fewer calories than you expend, and you may have even spent some time counting them one by one.
And although it really is an effective way to lose weight, most attempts to do so end in the inability to persist for a long time, due to the much involvement and motivation it requires.
Another disadvantage of counting calories as a tool for weight loss is the fact that focusing only on calories may cause us to ignore something equally important - the quality of the food.
And not only does the quality of food have a decisive effect on our health, it is also an important factor in our ability to stick to a diet.
Choosing raw and natural foods over processed and low-calorie foods, along with varied and balanced eating, will help us feel fuller.
And if we are more satiated - it is likely that we will be able to persevere more.
