Protesters protested overnight in 15 Iranian cities, blocking traffic, setting fire to police bins and vehicles, throwing stones at security forces and chanting anti-government slogans.
The police used tear gas and made arrests to disperse the crowd, writes the Irna news agency.
Men and women, many of whom had taken off their veils, gathered in Tehran and other major cities, including Mashhad (north-east), Tabriz (north-west), Rasht (north), Isfahan (center) and Kish (south).
