Prof. Roni Gamzo, director of the Ichilov Hospital, announced today (Wednesday) his desire to leave the position.
"About twenty years ago, I joined the hospital's management as Vice President of Economics, and since then I have focused on setting a standard of strategic management that combines expansion, efficiency and financial stability," Prof. Gemzo wrote in his resignation letter.
"Seven years ago I replaced Prof. Gabi Barbash as the hospital's CEO and continued to emphasize excellence and empathetic service while expanding the hospital's infrastructure and operations.
In recent weeks, my decision to vacate the position of CEO of the hospital and allow a new and groundbreaking leadership to
manage the hospital in the face of future challenges has rewarded me.
I think inspiring public leadership is measured by the ability to give your place to the next generation even when you feel powerful, comfortable and confident in your role.
"I do not intend to leave Ichilov but to move to a position similar in format to the chairman, and to engage in the development of the hospital, the empowerment of the subsidiaries, the promotion of innovation and investments in tech-health, the development of international activity and assistance in obtaining the sources for continued structural development together with the Friends association.
At the same time, I will examine integration in public and business positions - although I have not yet made any decision on the matter."

Will he run for mayor of Tel Aviv?
Gamzo became a household name after he was appointed to the position of Corona Commissioner, while he promoted the traffic light program and worked to allow flights to and from Israel, while maintaining the health restrictions, and won great sympathy in the Israeli public despite and perhaps even due to his struggles on the issue with the political echelon.
Over a year ago, upon the completion of his work as the Corona Commissioner, we published in "Israel Today" that he was considering running for mayor of Tel Aviv.
Gamzo didn't confirm the things, but he didn't deny them either.
It is possible that his letter of resignation hints at going to public office.
