(ANSA) - LONDON, SEPTEMBER 21 - Two simple names, Elizabeth II and Philip, united under a single decoration, a metal star symbol of the belonging of both in life to the ancient Order of the Garter.
This is what has appeared for a few hours on the tombstone at the entrance to the family chapel of St George, in Windsor Castle, where Queen Elizabeth - who died on 8 September at 96 after seven decades of reign - was finally buried on Monday evening. 12 days of mass giveaways and commemorations culminating in the solemn London State Funeral on the 19th.
This was reported by the British media, specifying that the engraving was performed after the burial, which took place at the end of the grandiose public ceremonies of the previous hours, in the presence only of King Charles III with the queen Camilla, the other children of the deceased sovereign and of the closest family of the Windsor house.
Until yesterday, the tombstone bore only the names - with the dates of birth and death - of Elizabeth's father and mother, King George VI and the queen mother (also Elizabeth), who were already buried there together with the urn with the ashes of the sisterMargaret, the only member of the family who wanted to be creamed.
Now, however, confirms Buckingham Palace, on the inscription there are 4 names, the first two at the top and the others immediately below: "George VI 1895-1952", "Elizabeth1900-2002", "Elizabeth II 1926-2022" and "Philip 1921-2021 ".
