Straight from the biggest festivals in the world: these are the international films that will be screened at the Haifa Festival Israel today

A wide variety of intriguing and award-winning films will be screened this year at the Haifa International Film Festival, which will be held on the Sukkot holiday on October 8-17.

Along with outstanding works that come straight from the biggest festivals in the world, the rich offer at this year's festival also includes an unprecedented selection of films from the countries of the region including Egypt, Iran, Tunisia and Morocco.

In this framework, Nabil Ayush, a senior filmmaker in Morocco, will be hosted at the festival, along with a delegation of Moroccan women filmmakers who will present their works and meet the audience.

"There's Nothing New in the West," the German representative for the upcoming Oscar ceremony, which presents a new adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque's seminal anti-war novel;

"Finding Richard", an exciting drama by veteran British director Stephen Frears ("Dangerous Liaisons", "The Queen") with Sally Hawkins and Steve Coogan;

"Peter von Kant", by the French director Francois Ozon,

which presents an original adaptation of one of Rainer Werner Fassbinder's well-known films;

"The Good Boss", the Spanish representative for the upcoming Oscar ceremony, starring Javier Bardem;

"Tchaikovsky's Wife", by the Russian director Kirill Serbarnikov;

"Fairy Tale", by Alexander Sokurov ("Russian Box"), which premiered in the competitive framework of the Locarno Festival;

and "God's Country", by the Icelandic director Helinor Palmason, which was one of the most talked about films at the last Cannes Film Festival.

Other films in the program worth paying attention to are Miriam Tozani's "The Blue Kaptan", which won the International Critics Award as part of the Cannes Film Festival's "Certain View";

"The Worst" by Liz Akoka and Roman Guerra, which won the best film award in the same frame;

"Our House" by Alejandro Luisa Grisi, which won the best film award in the international competition at the Sundance Film Festival;

"Summer with Hope" by Sadaf Porohi, which won the best film award at the last Karlovy Vary festival and "The Word" by Beata Perkanova, which won the directing and acting award in Karlovy Vary.

Perkanova herself will also be a guest of the festival.

In the documentary section of the program you can find intriguing films such as "Sergio Leone - the Italian who invented America", which brings the story of the legendary director who signed masterpieces such as "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly", and "There were times in America";

"The March on Rome", by Mark Cousins, which deals with the rise of fascism in Italy in the 1930s;

and "The Matchmaker", by the journalist Bendetta Argentieri, which deals with the truth and the myth behind the "Jihad Matchmaker".

As announced about two weeks ago, the festival will be opened by the film "Don't worry, my dear" by Olivia Wilde (which caused a great stir when it was screened at the last Venice Film Festival) starring Florence Poe, Harry Styles and Chris Pine, and the closing film will be "The Silence", the new and highly anticipated film of the local director The veteran is Shemi Zarhin ("Lilsada", "Aviva my love").

The Israeli competitions at the festival will include, among others, films by Michal Vinik, Maor Zagouri, Uri Barbash, Erez Tadmor, Dan Wellman and more.
