Liguria earthquake: 4.1 shock in Bargagli felt in Genoa

(ANSA) - GENOA, 22 SEPT - An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 struck the hinterland of Genoa in the area 2 kmW Bargagli (Genoa) at 3.39 pm.

It was felt very strongly both in the capital and in the surrounding areas, including the eastern coast, from Portofino to Sestri.

The Institute of Volcanology has given the geographic coordinates (lat, lon): 44.4390, 9.0680 and the depth of 10 km.


    "At the moment I am not injured or damaged, I am wandering around the town to check for myself," SergioCasalini, Mayor of Bargagli, a municipality located above the epicenter of the earthquake, told ANSA.

"I was at home and I felt a very strong shock, everything started to oscillate and the knick-knacks fell - he added - luckily no damage but just a lot of fright. I am shocked".

The mayor immediately contacted the head of civil protection of the Liguria Region Giacomo Giampedrone before continuing the inspection in the town.

"My fellow citizens are already returning to their homes."


    The tremor was felt very strongly on the upper floors of the buildings and the window panes shook.

The quake was felt in particular in the hinterland of Genoa and the Levante, as well as in Bargagli, Davagna and Torriglia.

The tourism movement also surprised the tourists of the eastern coast, from Portofino to Sestri Levante, both those who were in the hotels on the higher floors and those who were on the beach.
