The UN Security Council meets at 10 am (4 pm in Italy) on the sidelines of the 77th General Assembly to discuss the Russian war in Ukraine
, the Kremlin's decision to partially mobilize and its veiled threat to use nuclear weapons.
The meeting, under the French presidency, brings together
the foreign ministers of the USA (Antony Blinken), Russia (Sergei Lavrov) and Ukraine (Dmytro Kuleba), together with European members of the UN body.
The agenda is Moscow's apparent impunity in the war, but according to EU High Representative
Josep Borrell (attending the meeting), it
will also reflect new threats from Russian President Vladimir Putin.
United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres and Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court Karim Khan will inform the Fifteen, and a tough tussle is expected between the holders of diplomacy in Washington and Moscow.
According to diplomatic sources, there is no draft resolution on the table, nor an action to impose new sanctions on Russia (which, moreover, being a permanent member of the CDS, he would veto).
