A German vacationer who has been missing in Crete for more than two weeks has been found dead.
A specially arrived team of German dog handlers with corpse detection dogs found the man on Wednesday, as the rescue workers announced on Thursday evening.
According to Greek media reports, the 53-year-old had visited the Kamares Cave in rough mountainous terrain at an altitude of around 1,500 meters and had crashed on the way back for reasons that have not yet been clarified.
Greek rescue workers combed the region in vain;
the place could not be seen, it was said by the German rescue workers.
Local mountain rescuers and firefighters were deployed during the rescue to reach the casualty in the difficult alpine terrain.
An autopsy is now to be carried out and the cause of the accident investigated.
