A Vancouver court has sentenced former actor Ryan Grantham to life in prison for killing his mother in 2020.
The punishment could be suspended after 14 years at the earliest, reported the portal "Deadline" and the broadcaster CBC, among others.
He was convicted of »second degree murder«, which under German law can best be compared to manslaughter.
The 24-year-old had pleaded guilty.
According to the CBC, the process was primarily about how many years Grantham would be given the opportunity to apply for parole.

Grantham reportedly shot his 64-year-old mother in the back of the head in March 2020 and later turned himself in to police.
The young man had originally been charged with first-degree murder.
During the trial, it became clear that he appears to be suffering from mental health problems.
Since his arrest, he has been participating in a psychiatric help program.
Grantham starred in several productions as a child and teenager, including »Greg's Diary – Surrounded by Idiots!«.
A few years ago he appeared in the series »Riverdale«.
