True to the motto: Meat is my vegetable

Sausage salad is a classic for a snack in the evening or simply as a snack in between.

Whether Swabian, Strasbourg, Bavarian or Swiss - the sausage salad has to taste good.

Some add cheese and others add black pudding.

Sometimes Lyoner is cut into thin slices or meat loaf into fine strips.

The recipes are varied.

There's only one thing everyone agrees on: it has to be a vinegar and oil dressing, because with mayo it's a meat salad!

That's how it's done:

You only need a few ingredients:

  • Pretzel Croutons:

  • 2 pretzels

  • Sausage salad:

  • 600 g Lyoner, in strips

  • 100 g Emmental cheese, cut into strips

  • 5 (about 150 g) gherkins, cut into strips

  • 100 g red onions, cut into rings

  • 6 (approx. 50 g) radishes, cut into strips

  • Dressing:

  • 4 tablespoons cooking oil (e.g. sunflower oil)

  • 4 tablespoons vinegar (e.g. wine vinegar)

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 0.5 tsp pepper

  • 3 tbsp chives

The preparation is simple:

  • For the pretzel croutons: Cut the

pretzels into 1 cm thick pieces.

Roast slowly in a pan without oil over medium heat.

Turn several times until the pretzel pieces are crispy and browned.

    Put aside.

  • For the sausage salad:

Mix the Lyoner, Emmental, pickles, onions and radishes in a salad bowl.

  • For the dressing:

Whisk together the oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper.

  • Mix the oil and vinegar dressing with the sausage salad and leave to stand in the fridge for 30 minutes.

  • Just before serving, fold in the pretzel croutons and sprinkle with chives.

  • Bon appetit!

  • This Bavarian sausage salad with cheese is part of a snack.

Oktoberfest Fun Fact No. 5: What makes Oktoberfest beer so special?

    via GIPHY

In the 14 large and 22 small beer tents at the Wiesn, beer is poured one after the other.

Each tent has its own flair and its own beer.

    A total  of

    7.3 million liters of

beer were served at the Oktoberfest 2019 in Munich.

    Tendency to increase every year.

So and why is the Wiesn beer so great now (spoiler: the price of around 13 euros is definitely not)?

Well, it is brewed especially and exclusively for the Oktoberfest.

And that's what it's all about: with at least 13 percent original wort and

    six percent alcohol

it is much stronger than a "normal beer".

This has about 4.5 percent alcohol.

Strong beer and only in moderation - there's no such thing as half a beer.

No wonder it throws you off the beer bench faster than usual.

    So always drink slowly.

By the way, you can also cook with beer!

These crispy beer-battered chicken strips make everything better, and this bratwurst goulash with beer is perfect on a cold fall day.
