Montpellier airport on France's southern Mediterranean coast was closed indefinitely on Saturday after a cargo plane overshot the runway on landing and landed nose-in the water of an adjacent lake early this morning, just before dawn.
It came to a stop on a strip of grass by the water's edge, but the nose of the plane had tipped over into the water.
The three crew members of the Boeing 737 were unharmed in the accident and were quickly recovered, the city's prefecture said.
60 rescue workers were deployed to rescue the plane from its involuntary bath.
The French Air Accident Investigation Authority (BEA) is currently investigating the course of the accident.
The West Atlantic airline machine was used for the mail.
