A near tragedy in Bolzano, where an ultralight aircraft made an
emergency landing in the parking lot of the
Interspar supermarket, in the industrial area.
The final toll of the accident, on the causes of which the police investigations are underway, is of
five people slightly injured
, including the pilot of the aircraft, the passenger and three motorists.
The outcome could have been far worse, given the presence of numerous shops in the area, crowded for Saturday afternoon purchases.
The two-seater ultralight took off a few minutes from an airfield in San Genesio, above Bolzano, while the landing took place a few minutes after 2.30 pm, a short distance from the airport of the South Tyrolean capital, where the aircraft was headed. .
According to the accounts of some witnesses,
the plane hit the roof of a building with a wing
, and then lowered onto the access road to the parking area of the supermarket in via Buozzi, where it hit a parked car and two moving cars .
At the helm of the plane was a 23-year-old South Tyrolean, who will now be
called upon to explain the dynamics of the events
and provide the reasons why he had to make the emergency landing.
Immediately after the accident, rescuers and police were brought to the scene, together with the Bolzano firefighters, who recovered the aircraft, now impounded.
Many onlookers then reached the area, interrupting their purchases to assist in the recovery of crashed planes and cars.
The incident has
rekindled the controversy over the Bolzano airport
, considered by many to be dangerous because it is too close to the town.
"Considering that a few tens of meters away there is the amusement park, the Interspar, the McDonald's, only a stroke of enormous luck averted the massacre. This airport
is in a very dangerous position
. There are unfulfilled security plans, there are political choices that have allowed all this ", wrote the mayor of Laives, Christian Bianchi on social media.
Also in Trentino Alto Adige, on August 26, the two pilots of another ultralight aircraft managed to escape independently after making an emergency landing in the Adige river, a short distance from Trento airport.
