For many international visitors, the Oktoberfest is the epitome of German culture.
Ed Sheeran is apparently no exception.
The British pop star is currently in Germany for three concerts and took the opportunity for a surprise visit to the Oktoberfest in Frankfurt am Main.
Dressed in lederhosen and a felt hat, he made a small surprise appearance in a marquee on Saturday evening.
Footage of the performance circulated on social media.
Marquee operator Patrick Hausmann also confirmed to the "Bild" newspaper that the surprise guest was really Sheeran.
At around 11:30 p.m. he and an entourage were completely surprised when he stood in front of his tent, according to Hausmann.
Sheeran had played a concert in the Deutsche Bank Park (former Commerzbank Arena) in Frankfurt's Sachsenhausen district in the evening.
The Frankfurt offshoot of the Oktoberfest is also located on the site.
So the singer apparently decided without further ado to go over to the marquee after his concert.
Recordings show that Sheeran sang several songs with a band there - including "Everybody" by the Backstreet Boys, but also his own song "Perfect".
As can be seen from the photos, he had put on an outfit typical of Oktoberfest, consisting of a checked shirt, felt hat and lederhosen.
Apparently he still had time for a measure and selfies with visitors to the festival.
Ed Sheeran is one of the most internationally successful musicians.
He is currently visiting Germany with his »Mathematics« tour.
In Frankfurt am Main he played three concerts on three consecutive days.
Saturday's concert marked the end of the series - which Sheeran might have wanted to crown with his little excursion.
His next stop is Austin, USA.
