(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 25 - There are about 3.1 million Italians who in the last 12 months have suffered a scam in the area of electricity and gas users, with an estimated overall economic damage of over 505 million euros (average damage equal to 162 euros for cheated).

This is what emerges from a survey commissioned by Facile.it to the mUp Research and Norstat institutes.

    Electricity and gas utilities are the household expenditure items, among those analyzed in the survey, where Italians fell into a trap more frequently (7.1% of respondents) and declared that they had suffered a scam in this area);

electronic cards (6.5%), mobile telephony (5.2%) follow, while car / motorbike insurance, considered by some to be one of the most risky areas, in reality it is among the fields analyzed that where Italians have fallen trapped with less frequency (1.4%).

    Among the channels most used by scammers are fake call centers (44%) and door-to-door visits (31%).

54% of trapped chicades do not report fraud, a value even higher than the average found in the other household expenditure items surveyed, where those who do not report are 41.5% of the scammed.

    The favorite victims of scammers are mainly men (8.9% compared to 5.3% of the female sample) and, despite what one might think, respondents with a university degree (9.9% compared to 5.6% found among non-graduates).

From the personal point of view, it emerges that, falling into a trap in the context of electricity and gas users, respondents in the 35-44 age group are more affected (9.2%) while, at the territorial level, they are residents in the North East (9.6%).
