On the nationwide warning day, sirens wail and alarms are sent out throughout Germany.
A new system is to be tested that will make cell phones ring.
Berlin - Howling sirens and warning messages on the cell phone - which sounds a bit like an apocalypse describes the nationwide warning day.
The federal, state and participating districts and municipalities will practice and test their warning devices together on December 8th.
At 11 a.m. sharp, the authorities and emergency services will activate various warning devices.
These include radio, television, digital city display boards and warning apps.
A new system is being tested for the first time that can send warning messages to all mobile devices.
Nationwide warning day: alarm signal soon on all mobile devices
With the help of the cell broadcast system, people in Germany should receive a test message via the mobile network.
A test warning message is therefore sent out at the highest warning level on the nationwide warning day.
According to the Federal Network Agency, a siren tone is played by the end device even if the mobile phone is switched to silent or is in "do not disturb mode".

Warnings should be sent to a large number of people faster, more precisely, more easily and with less data using the cell broadcast system.
The use of cell broadcast is therefore well suited for emergencies.
The message is sent anonymously.
People in potential danger areas can also receive an alert on their mobile device without registering or logging in.
Nationwide warning day: New warning system still in the test phase
The feedback from the population should then be obtained afterwards, as the Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) announced in a report.
Until the end of February 2023, the cell broadcast is still in the test phase.
After that, it will probably be activated for the warning bodies in the federal modular warning system (MoWaS).
Since 2020, the nationwide warning day has taken place on every second Thursday in September.
However, there are also nationwide test alarms, such as in Bavaria in May.
In order to be able to carry out a test of the cell broadcasting warning channel, the warning day was postponed to December.
