(ANSA) - ROME, SEPTEMBER 25 - The new Public Register of Oppositions comes to the attention of the Privacy Guarantor, the Antitrust Authority and the Rome Public Prosecutor's Office.

In fact, Codacons presented a complaint following numerous reports from citizens who, despite enrolling in the new Register, continue to receive commercial telephone calls from call centers and specialized operators.

On the basis of the data collected by the association, more than one user on 2 registered in the Register (about 55%) continues to be targeted by calls from operators offering services and contracts, indifferent to the current provisions on the subject of telemarketing.

Approximately 40% of commercial telephone calls received from users offer contracts for the supply of egas light, while 32% are linked to the world of telephony.

An increasing number of calls originating from automated systems through fictitious numbers created by special software for the purpose of circumventing and evading the relevant regulations.

In its complaint, the Codacons highlights the blatant violation of the provisions of the Privacy Code, but also possible criminal offenses that failure to comply with the Public Register of Oppositions could create, such as harassment and non-compliance with the Authority's provisions.

The association therefore asked the Guarantor and the judiciary to open investigations in the territory aimed at ascertaining the lack of respect for the privacy of citizens, ascertaining the relative responsibilities.

Instead, the association asks the Antitrust Authority to initiate an investigation for unfair commercial practices by sanctioning the incorrect operators.

"In unsuspecting times we had foreseen the possible flop of the new Register,

and the numbers unfortunately prove us right - says the president Carlo Rienzi - The flaws that characterize this tool and the billionaire interests that revolve around the telemarketing sector today prevent us from really putting an end to the hateful phenomenon of wild phone calls.

We hope that now, thanks to our complaint, the judiciary, Antitrust and Garantesi will take action against offenders, sanctioning the violation of citizens' privacy with the utmost seriousness ". (ANSA).
