"You start doing what is necessary, then what is possible. Eventually, you will find yourself doing the impossible."
It is one of the phrases quoted by Giorgia Meloni this night in the speech after the results that attest to her victory in the elections.
But St. Francis never said it.
This is what we read in an article by the Franciscan historian, fra Andrea Vaona, posted on his blog in April 2022 and relaunched today by the former director of Tv2000 Lucio Brunelli.
"Phrases attributed to St. Francis of Assisi are also propagated 'virally' on sites or social networks, but which are absolutely neither among his writings nor among the sayings that we find in his biographies", wrote the Franciscan historian.
"What hurts is the difficulty in correcting the published errors: when reported, the answer is often annoyed, because 'the sentence is beautiful! ...'" and "a brother, wisely, to defuse, says: 'Franciscan spirituality from Baci Perugina '", underlined in his post between Andrea Vaona.
"Start doing what is necessary, then what is possible. And suddenly you will find yourself doing the impossible - it is not St. Francis of Assisi",
