Andy Murray sees Roger Federer as the perfect replacement for Bjorn Borg, who yesterday announced his retirement as captain of the European team in the Laver Cup, after the next edition in Vancouver.
"I'm sure Roger will get involved in this event one way or another and maybe someday as team captain," said the Scotsman in a comment reported by the PA agency.
Federer played the last game of his prestigious career on Friday evening, during the first day of the team tournament, in doubles with Rafa Nadal, losing to American duo Jack Sock and Frances Tiafoe.
Earlier, announcing farewell at 41, the 20-year-old Grand Slam winner assured him that he would stay in the tennis world, even without knowing exactly how.
He then stayed by the side of the team, giving advice to his teammates, even though Europe suffered its first defeat in five editions (13-8) against the Rest of the World.
Novak Djokovic, who was part of the European squad, also believes that "Roger has a lot to offer. It makes sense to expect him to share a lot of useful and valuable things with other players, in all aspects on and off the pitch," he said.
